Guiding Principles

It’s about people
IATC is driven by the initiative, creativity, engagement and resilience of outstanding and highly motivated people seeking to facilitate change for the better. It includes stakeholders ranging from health care professionals and hospital managers to the administraive and political level. It aims particularly at young professionals.

Sparking self-help
IATC offers a mixture of immaterial and material support as well as incentives which are conditioned on some engagement on the part of the recipient community or organization. IATC encourages and supports local actors to initiate and implement change by themselves to ensure a sustainable impact. Equipping hospitals with anesthetic devices is merely a way to give anesthesiologists the technical means to raise care standards using the skills taught in IATC training courses.

On-the-ground support and public advocacy
IATC’s work focuses on the very foundations of anesthesia care: it is patient-centered and skill-based. At the same time, structural changes are important to enhance capacity. IATC relies on the administrative hierarchy and its top-down regulation in order to facilitate structural changes. Combining the involvement of civil society with political actors on relevant levels allows for implementing a successful project.
